Ron Longsdorf (b. Greensburg, PA) has training in sculpture, and he considers himself a curator of objects and materials. Growing up in Western Pennsylvania, Ron experienced the construction, development and progress of his childhood home and landscape being formed around him. His father, uncle and grandfather were key family members who built the house he grew up in. The realization of seeing and knowing family members (not trained architects) designed and built a home to shelter and care for a family is what became the basis for his sculptural/installation work.
Ron holds an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Delaware and a BFA in Sculpture from Pennsylvania State University. He has exhibited nationally and internationally, including, Delaware; Pennsylvania; New Jersey; Ohio; Virginia; California; Texas; Brooklyn, NY; Baltimore, MD; Lexington, KY; Minneapolis, MN; North Carolina; South Carolina; Berlin, Germany; and Limassol, Cyprus. Ron has attended residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, Art Farm in Nebraska, Elsewhere Artist Collaborative in Greensboro, NC, HUB-BUB in Spartanburg, SC, and Stonehouse in Miramonte, CA. He has received an Individual Artist Fellowship, several Individual Artist Opportunity Grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts and a Travel Assistance Professional Development Grant from Kutztown University. Ron is currently a Professor of Foundation Studies at Savannah College of Art & Design. He is a recent 2025 recipient of a Sabbatical Award from Savannah College of Art & Design. He lives in Savannah, GA with his wife and son.
As part of his recent sabbatical (2025), Ron spent the summer visiting and researching the architectural work of Frank Lloyd Wright, the collections of Alex Jordan's House on the Rock and the collective art spaces of Meow Wolf, Convergence Station, Denver, Co. With his research, new sculptures will reinforce scale and proportional relationships in the sense of Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous compression and release with extreme proportion changes. Surprise or unexpected use of interiors, textures and more fantastical spaces will be working from Alex Jordan’s collections and the collaborative spaces, installations and diorama environments from Meow Wolf with scale shifts of smaller environments in larger objects.
